Train from Milan is fastest
Milano Centrale to Como S. Giovanni runs every 30–60 minutes, ~40 minutes direct. Cheaper and quicker than the Malpensa taxi option.
Buy ferry tickets at the lungolago booth
Como's ferry ticket office is on the lungolago, by the pier. In July–August buy online in advance — hydrofoils to Bellagio sell out.
Arrive at your hotel by water taxi
Most lakeside hotels and villas are ferry-accessible. A private water taxi turns a Como arrival into an experience.
Best season? Jun–Sep
Peak is wonderful, but June or late September give you the same light and lakes for half the villa rate.

Lake 20–25°C, air 24–30°C. Full April–October hydrofoil and car ferry timetable. Largest crowds; villa prices ~30–40% higher. Book 2–3 months ahead for July and August.
Shoulder — Spring & Autumn (Apr–May, Sep–Oct)
Lake 14–20°C, air 16–24°C. Ferries still frequent, gardens in bloom (spring) or warm light (autumn). Noticeably fewer crowds. The pick for most travellers.
Off-season — Winter (Nov–Mar)
Lake 6–12°C, air 4–12°C. Slow boats only — often hourly; hydrofoils usually don't run Nov–Mar. Lowest rates, misty lake light, Como's Christmas lights and New Year events.
